Wastewater from coating processes
Purpose
In the paper industry, printing is only possible if the paper has been treated with a coating formulation. This coating slurry contains harmful substances (latex, PVA, titanium dioxide, etc.) and various pigments. The resulting wastewater is heavily polluted and discharge into a wastewater treatment plant is strictly prohibited.
Solution
Retention of solid contaminants and generation of clear, recyclable wastewater.
During treatment, the product is split into two phases:
- the filtrate, consisting of clear water with traces of soluble substances, which can be recycled or discharged to a treatment plant.
- the concentrate, containing all suspended solids, which can be recycled for producing a new coating slurry.
Benefits
- Reuse of the concentrate for producing a new coating slurry.
- Reduced water consumption.
- If not recycled, the filtrate can be discharged directly into the sewer system.
- Low energy consumption thanks to high-performance membranes.
